Adjunct Organic Chemistry Position for Summer

 

Bastyr University is searching for an adjunct faculty member to teach an Organic Chemistry course this summer (see course description below). This course will be a 4 week intensive meant as a pre-requisite for students applying for the Naturopathic Medicine program.   Summer quarter begins on July 10 and the intensive runs for 4 weeks.  Instructor qualifications include training in Organic Chemistry and experience teaching a similar course(s).

BC 3123 Organic Chemistry for Life Sciences Lecture/Lab (5 credits of lecture and 1 credit of lab)

This course covers the following concepts: functional groups’ importance in biomolecule structure and function; saturated hydrocarbons: structure, chemical and physical properties (alkanes, cycloalkanes); unsaturated hydrocarbons: structure, chemical and physical properties (alkenes, alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons, heterocyclic aromatic compounds); alcohols, phenols, thiols, ethers: structure, chemical and physical properties; aldehydes & ketones: structure, chemical and physical properties; carboxylic acids & their derivatives: structure, chemical and physical properties; amines and amides: structure, chemical and physical properties; carbohydrates, lipids and proteins.
